Poison dart frogs are native to the rainforest of countries such as Costa Rica, Bolivia, Ecuador, Brazil, Peru, Nicaragua, Panama and French Guyana. They can be found living near cultivated land close to a body of water and in streams. Although they live on the ground, their natural habitat is in a pool or stream. They like areas where there is high humidity and there is dense vegetation with running water.
Poison arrow frogs can also be found in Hawaii because of their introduction to the area in 1932. As pets, two to three frogs will be able to coexist in a ten gallon aquarium. The frogs habitat as a pet should be kept moist, which can be done by using a spray mister. They also should have a source of water and plants in their aquarium. A few hiding spots for the frogs are also necessary If taken care of properly they can live up to ten years in captivity.
Like every amphibian poison dart frogs have porous skin, so they react quickly to changes in the environment.
